Dimka Coup:I Saw Tank With Big Gun Facing VON Studio, I Said”If This Gun Shoots We’re Dead”—Mgbatogu
Ron Mgbatogu, a veteran Nigerian broadcaster and voice actor, has stated that he feared for his life when soldiers invaded the Voice of Nigeria building during the February 1976 Dimka coup
In an exclusive interview with The Podcast Network, Mgbatogu said he was inside the VON studio when he saw a large armoured tank positioned in front of the studio. He said he became afraid because he knew if the tank fired, everyone inside the studio would be killed
Mgbatogu said the VON studio had many glass windows, so he decided to flee to a safe place
In Mgbatogu’s words: “When I came downstairs from where I read the news, there in front of the Voice of Nigeria building was a big armoured tank with its big gun trained on the building. I saw it. I said to myself ‘If this gun spoke, we will all be dead here'”
