Brown Mogotsi Stays Behind Bars as Court Delays Case to November
Self-proclaimed political fixer Brown Mogotsi remains in custody after his court case was postponed to 13 November.
Mogotsi appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday facing serious charges linked to an alleged staged assassination attempt in Vosloorus last year. The charges include unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, perjury, defeating the ends of justice, and discharging a firearm in a public place.
Prosecutors claim he staged a fake attack on himself in November 2025 by shooting at his own vehicle and then falsely reporting that he had been targeted. His legal team is asking the state for extra documents, including cellphone records of witnesses, unredacted statements, and images from video footage of the incident.
The prosecution said it needed more time to prepare a proper response to the defence application. The court agreed to postpone the matter and expressed frustration at the repeated delays.
Mogotsi has been denied bail several times. Courts have previously ruled that he is a flight risk. He will stay in prison until the next hearing on 13 November, when the court will deal further with the defence request for information.
The case continues to draw public interest because of Mogotsi’s claimed links to political and criminal networks. Both the state and the defence have been ordered to exchange documents on time so that the matter can move forward without further delays.
