Atiku reacts as Tinubu deploys security operatives to protect his campaign billboards in Kaduna

According to a Facebook post on Friday, October 23, 2026, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticised President Bola Tinubu over the deployment of security operatives to protect his campaign billboards in Kaduna State.

The deployment came ahead of Tinubu’s expected visit to the state and the planned launch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential campaign.

Atiku questioned the government’s priorities, arguing that while Tinubu’s campaign materials received security protection, many Nigerians continued to live in fear of bandits and terrorists. He challenged the President to show the same urgency in protecting citizens as he did in safeguarding his political image.

He wrote, “Bola, you claim Nigerians love you, yet your billboards in Kaduna require security guards. Bandits raid villages, terrorists attack communities, and families live in fear. Bola, please protect Nigerians with the same urgency you protect your image!”

The former vice president’s reaction followed a report by Daily Trust on Friday, October 23. The newspaper reported that security personnel had been deployed to guard Tinubu’s posters and billboards at strategic locations across Kaduna.

According to the report, personnel of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were among those assigned to protect the campaign materials against vandalism.

Police officers and plain-clothes operatives were also stationed at major roads and roundabouts. Security preparations had intensified around the Kaduna Township Stadium, the venue for the planned campaign launch.
