Wontumi Is Not Well And Needs Pardon From Our Compassionate,Humble President John Mahama—Peter

Political commentator Peter Tawiah has called on President John Dramani Mahama to consider granting clemency to New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, citing concerns about his reported health condition.

In a Facebook post, Tawiah urged the president to approach Wontumi’s circumstances with compassion and consider whether a presidential pardon or amnesty would be appropriate on humanitarian grounds.

He explained that reactions to Wontumi on social media had led him to question why some people appeared unwilling to show sympathy towards individuals going through challenging situations.

Tawiah referenced the case of Abuga Pele, suggesting that Wontumi should also be considered for humanitarian relief if his health circumstances warrant it.

He further mentioned former presidents Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whom he said had granted amnesty to political prisoners while serving as president.

According to Tawiah, Mahama could follow a similar path by considering clemency for Wontumi, even if the politician had committed offences against the state.

He described Mahama as a leader known for compassion and expressed hope that the president would give serious consideration to the appeal.

Tawiah also condemned what he viewed as a lack of empathy among some social media users. He questioned whether Christians and Muslims were living up to the values of mercy and compassion taught by their religions.

“Can’t we have compassion for fellow humans?” he asked, encouraging Ghanaians to show greater kindness and understanding towards people facing hardship.

His comments have sparked further discussion about Chairman Wontumi’s circumstances and the extent to which health and humanitarian concerns should be considered when dealing with individuals involved in legal proceedings.
