HomeCrime & CourtsWATCH | Durban man allegedly shoots hijackers during gunfight caught on dashcam Crime & Courts WATCH | Durban man allegedly shoots hijackers during gunfight caught on dashcam By Sbu Mzobe 22/10/2026 0 32 Share FacebookXPinterestWhatsApp Dashcam footage showing a bakkie driver exchanging gunfire with alleged hijackers in Durban has circulated widely on social media, with reports indicating that three men were killed in the incident.
The incident allegedly occurred in the Pinetown area on 9 October 2026. However, police confirmation of the reported deaths and the circumstances surrounding the shooting was still outstanding at the time of reporting.
In the footage, the driver is seen leaving his driveway in a bakkie, with his daughter seated beside him. A young boy, believed to be his son, is standing near the gate.
A vehicle suspected of being used by the alleged hijackers reportedly passes the bakkie before stopping a short distance away.
One man then exits the vehicle and runs towards the property, while another allegedly approaches with a firearm and opens fire on the bakkie.
According to information attributed to a source cited in media reports, one of the suspects allegedly held the boy at gunpoint while the attack unfolded. The driver appears to return fire during the confrontation.
The bakkie reportedly sustained multiple bullet impacts, while the driver survived the incident.
Reports further allege that three men were killed. One of the men was reportedly found at a clinic, although the circumstances surrounding his presence there have not been independently confirmed.
Police were reportedly still being approached for confirmation from Pinetown SAPS regarding whether a case had been registered.
The full circumstances of the incident, including the identities of those involved and the reported fatalities, remain subject to official confirmation.
