Video Emerges of an MP Allied To Sifuna Who Refused to do a Handshake With Wetangula in Church

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has sparked mixed reactions online after appearing to snub National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula during a requiem mass in Nairobi on Wednesday, October 21.

The service was held in honour of the late Burudi Nabwera, a former Kenyan ambassador to the United States and permanent representative to the United Nations who later served as Lugari MP.

Video footage showed Wetang’ula moving through the congregation, greeting political leaders from different political camps. While several leaders stood to shake his hand, Wamboka remained seated and did not return the greeting as the Speaker extended his hand.

Wetang’ula proceeded to greet other leaders, including Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Bumula MP’s fellow opposition ally Majimbo Kalasinga and former National Assembly Speaker Francis Ole Kaparo.

The incident has drawn different reactions, with some Kenyans criticising Wamboka’s conduct as discourteous, while others defended his right to decline a handshake.

Wamboka is associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement, which opposes President William Ruto’s re-election bid. Wetang’ula, meanwhile, supports Ruto’s 2027 re-election campaign.
