TSC Teachers’ Salary Increment: What Kenyan Teachers Need to Know About Their Pay and Allowances
Teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have begun benefiting from the second phase of salary adjustments under the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The revised salary scales took effect on July 1, 2026, bringing monthly basic salary increases ranging from approximately KSh 693 to KSh 2,055, depending on a teacher’s job grade and salary point. The changes are part of an agreement between TSC and teachers’ unions aimed at improving teachers’ remuneration.
According to reports, teachers in different grades will receive different adjustments. For example, a Secondary Teacher I in Grade C3 is among those eligible for an increase of up to KSh 2,055, while the adjustment for other positions varies.
Teachers will also continue receiving applicable allowances, including house, commuter, hardship and annual leave allowances, subject to the relevant conditions. However, the amount each teacher receives depends on their grade, work station and eligibility.
The revised salary structure does not mean every teacher will take home the same amount. Basic salary is different from gross salary, while statutory deductions and other authorised deductions affect the final amount appearing on a payslip.
The implementation marks another stage in the four-year CBA running from 2025 to 2029. Teachers are encouraged to check their payslips and consult their school administrators or TSC offices if they notice discrepancies in their salary payments.
The key question for teachers now is whether the revised pay will provide meaningful relief as the cost of living continues to put pressure on households.
