Today’s Headlines:Tinubu has nothing for Nigerians-Ahmed;Economy Not Improving Under Tinubu—Obasanjo
The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has described President Bola Tinubu as a failure, accusing his administration of worsening insecurity and economic hardship ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks on Channels Television’s Politics Today, arguing that Tinubu had failed to deliver meaningful improvements after three and a half years in office.
He questioned reports that the president would campaign in only a few locations, insisting that Tinubu should personally engage Nigerians and explain the impact of his policies.
“He has nothing to say to Nigerians,” Baba-Ahmed said.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday expressed pessimism about Nigeria’s economic outlook under President Bola Tinubu, saying he sees no indication that the country’s economic situation is improving.
Obasanjo also questioned the rationale for seeking a second term for Tinubu to consolidate his economic policies, arguing that the reforms had impoverished Nigerians and had not served their best interests.
The former president spoke during a keynote interview at the ongoing Financial Times Africa Summit 2026 in London, United Kingdom, where he criticised the administration’s handling of the economy, particularly the devaluation of the naira and the removal of petrol subsidy.
Reacting to the sharp depreciation of the naira, Obasanjo said the policy had significantly reduced the purchasing power of Nigerians and contributed to the country’s position as the poverty capital of the world.
Former president Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday, called on the Federal Government to prioritise industrialisation, technical skills development and local manufacturing as strategies to address unemployment and stimulate Nigeria’s economic growth.
Jonathan said the country’s large population, particularly its youthful demographic, presented an opportunity to build a productive economy through investments in factories, technology and technical education.
He spoke at Idu Industrial Area in Abuja during the unveiling of a tricycle production facility established and operated by Zeetin Engineering Factory.
Jonathan asked the government to transform Nigeria into a major production hub rather than rely heavily on imported goods or expecting foreign investment in the country.
The Allied Peoples Movement, APM, presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday urged Nigerians to allow him to complete the remaining four years of the South-West in the Presidency.
President Bola Tinubu is about to complete his first tenure as Nigeria’s president.
Tinubu, who hails from Lagos State in the South-West, is seeking re-election in 2027.
However, Makinde said Nigerians will decide if the South-West should complete its eight-year term in 2027.
