Today’s Headlines:Kanu’s Referendum Demand Not A Crime-Activists;Trump Seeks Border Wall Approval

A coalition of United States-based pro-Biafra activists has declared that the jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, did not commit any crime by demanding a referendum on the Biafra question in Nigeria.

This is as the activists asked the Nigerian government to learn from the self-determination push in the United Kingdom which has led to demands for referendum by the people of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The activists spoke in a joint statement issued by the American Veterans of Igbo Descent, AVID, Rising Sun and Ambassadors for Self-Determination, signed by Dr Sylvester Onyia, Mazi Evans Nwankwo and Rev. Dede Maxwell.

Leaders of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland signed a joint declaration on independence referendums at a summit in Cardiff in September amid a push by nations to assert the right to determine their futures.

Oct 21 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump’s administration asked the US Supreme Court on Wednesday to let it proceed with a plan to build a US-Mexico border ‌barrier in a remote region in West Texas that includes Big Bend National Park.

The Justice Department filed an emergency request for the court to lift a federal judge’s order halting wall construction in the region while a lawsuit against the project brought by an environmental group and other challengers plays out.

The Republican president has long touted building or reinforcing barriers along the US-Mexico border as a signature part of his anti-immigration policies. But his administration’s push to extend border infrastructure into the national park, around 250 miles (400 km) southeast of El Paso, has faced opposition from local officials, conservationists and some Texas Republicans.

The lawsuit was brought by the Center for Biological Diversity, a Big Bend-area river guide and a group seeking to preserve a historic church in Ruidosa, Texas, that says its fragile adobe structure is threatened by the border construction.

The Deputy Director-General, Media and Communications of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign, Dele Momodu, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using economic statistics to mislead Nigerians, alleging that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is fighting criticism from international institutions while struggling to win public confidence ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Momodu, who is backing ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, made the remarks on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, while questioning the government’s presentation of economic figures and the credibility of the electoral process.

“I saw the speech of an Emir in the North, I wish we had a lot of time, I would have read it to you. They were told the brutal truth that you should never lie to the people. What the APC is doing today is to use those statistics to tell lies and to say The World Bank are for us, The IMF are for us,” he said.

Mohamed Salah scored a penalty and provided an assist as Trabzonspor secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Hearts in the Conference League.

As reported by BBC Sport on Thursday, the Liverpool legend opened the scoring from the spot in the first half before setting up Franculino Dju for a superb second goal after the break to seal the win for the Turkish side.

Hearts, who were already struggling with injuries to several key first-team players, suffered another setback when full-back Harry Milne was ruled out after picking up an injury in training on the eve of the match. Attacker Rogers Mato was consequently deployed at left-back.
