Today’s Headlines: Why We Dumped Peter Obi for Tinubu-Obidient, Gumi Loses Bid To Stop Police Probe

A group of former members of the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi have announced their decision to dump the former Anambra State governor and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The group, which described itself as comprising professionals who worked within Obi’s campaign organisation, also adopted the All Progressives Congress (APC) as its political platform for the 2027 general election.

The group, which has now taken up a new name, ‘Batified Obidients’ at a press conference in Abuja, cited concerns about Obi’s leadership capacity and their convictions that the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms and policies, though painful, are necessary for taking Nigeria out of economic doldrums as reasons for their action.

The Kaduna State High Court has rejected requests by Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi and five others to suspend police investigations into an alleged forgery case and restrain businessman and broadcaster Nasir Musa Idris, popularly known as Albani Agege, from reporting on the legal dispute.

However, the court granted the applicants permission to challenge proceedings before the Chief Magistrate Court in Kabala Doki, Kaduna State, and ordered an interim stay of further proceedings in the case pending the hearing and determination of their substantive application.

The ruling was contained in an order dated October 20, 2026, issued by Justice Isa Aliyu in Suit No. KDH/KAD/693/2026.

The applicants are Gumi, Amal Ahmad Gumi, Mahmud Ahmad Gumi, Mubarak Ahmad Gumi, Umar Shahada, popularly known as Sambo, and Abubakar Abdullahi Goron Namaye.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed the immediate past Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Institute for Security Studies.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the institute’s Director of Coordination and Liaison, Lilian Omo-Odigwe, which was shared via the DSS’ X handle, Bichi’s appointment was recommended by the current DSS Director-General, Oluwatosin Ajayi.

The statement was titled ‘President Tinubu appoints Yusuf Bichi Chairman Governing Board of NISS.’

“The Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the appointment of Y. M. Mohamed Salah scored a penalty and provided an assist as Trabzonspor secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Hearts in the Conference League.

As reported by BBC Sport on Thursday, the Liverpool legend opened the scoring from the spot in the first half before setting up Franculino Dju for a superb second goal after the break to seal the win for the Turkish side.

Hearts, who were already struggling with injuries to several key first-team players, suffered another setback when full-back Harry Milne was ruled out after picking up an injury in training on the eve of the match. Attacker Rogers Mato was consequently deployed at left-back.

Defender Christian Borchgrevink was also forced off through injury just before half-time, further reducing head coach Wouter Vrancken’s options.
