Todayโs Headlines: Why We Dumped Obi for Tinubu โ Former Obidients; Trump asks US Supreme Court to allow Big Bend border wall construction
A group of former members of the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of Labour Partyโs presidential candidate, Peter Obi have announced their decision to dump the former Anambra State governor and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubuโs re-election bid in 2027.
The group, which described itself as comprising professionals who worked within Obiโs campaign organisation, also adopted the All Progressives Congress (APC) as its political platform for the 2027 general election.
The group, which has now taken up a new name, โBatified Obidientsโ at a press conference in Abuja, cited concerns about Obiโs leadership capacity and their convictions that the Tinubu administrationโs economic reforms and policies, though painful, are necessary for taking Nigeria out of economic doldrums as reasons for their action.
The statement read at the press conference was prepared by Adesina Fagbenro-Byron who is the National Coordinator of the Batified Obidients and former Director of Operations in Peter Obiโs 2023 campaign council.
Oct 21 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump’s administration asked the US Supreme Court โon Wednesday to let it proceed with a plan to build a US-Mexico border โbarrier in a remote region in West Texas that includes Big Bend National Park.
The Justice Department filed an emergency request for the court to lift a federal judge’s order halting wall construction in the region while a lawsuit against โthe project brought by an environmental group and other challengers plays out.
The Republican president has โlong touted building or reinforcing barriers along the US-Mexico border as a signature part โ of his anti-immigration policies. But his administration’s push to extend border infrastructure into the national park, โaround 250 miles (400 km) southeast of El Paso, has faced opposition from local officials, conservationists and some โTexas Republicans.
The lawsuit was brought by the Center for Biological Diversity, a Big Bend-area river guide and a group seeking to preserve a historic church in Ruidosa, Texas, that says its fragile adobe structure is threatened by the โborder construction.
