The Kaduna State High Court has rejected requests by Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi and five others to suspend police investigations into an alleged forgery case and restrain businessman and broadcaster Nasir Musa Idris, popularly known as Albani Agege, from reporting on the legal dispute.

However, the court granted the applicants permission to challenge proceedings before the Chief Magistrate Court in Kabala Doki, Kaduna State, and ordered an interim stay of further proceedings in the case pending the hearing and determination of their substantive application.

The ruling was contained in an order dated October 20, 2026, issued by Justice Isa Aliyu in Suit No. KDH/KAD/693/2026.

The applicants are Gumi, Amal Ahmad Gumi, Mahmud Ahmad Gumi, Mubarak Ahmad Gumi, Umar Shahada, popularly known as Sambo, and Abubakar Abdullahi Goron Namaye.

They had approached the High Court to challenge proceedings and an order made by the Chief Magistrate Court on June 2, 2026, in Case No. KMD/64/2026, arguing that the proceedings involved an alleged denial of fair hearing and errors on the face of the record.

The Democracy Watch Initiative has dismissed claims that the Federal Government has failed to address banditry in Katsina State, citing President Bola Tinubuโ€™s approval for the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to tackle criminal gangs.

The group said the Federal Government was working with the Katsina State Government to combat insecurity, particularly in forested and remote areas allegedly used as hideouts by bandits.

In a statement on Thursday, signed by its Deputy National Chairman, Musa Adam, the group said the forest guards would be trained and equipped to work alongside the military, police, Department of State Services and local vigilantes.

The Nigerian Army Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday, October 22, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the President of Rwanda, His Excellency Paul Kagame, in Kigali, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral defence relations and advance African-led responses to evolving security threats.

The COAS conveyed the goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian Army, while appreciating President Kagame for granting the audience and the warm hospitality extended to the delegation.

Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director Army Public Relations, in a statement, said Lieutenant General Shaibu commended Rwandaโ€™s transformation since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, highlighting important lessons in national reconstruction, institutional resilience and social cohesion.
