They Keep Claiming To Have Scandals Involving NDC Appointees,But Where’s The Evidence—Bongo
Ghanaian social commentator Albert Nat Hyde, popularly known as Bongo Ideas, has defended the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Yaako Donkor, following criticism over her reported attendance at Shatta Wale’s event at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
In a Facebook post published on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Bongo Ideas questioned why the senior police official was facing criticism for attending the entertainment event, arguing that holding a top security position should not prevent her from enjoying a personal life outside work.
He challenged critics to explain why her presence at the concert had become controversial, insisting that her responsibilities as CID boss did not mean she had to spend every night in the office pursuing criminals.
“So, because she is the CID boss, must she sleep in the office every night chasing criminals? Doesn’t she deserve a social life?” he asked.
Bongo Ideas maintained that senior public officials should be able to participate in social activities without automatically facing criticism, provided their professional responsibilities are fulfilled.
The commentator also criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing some of its members of targeting appointees of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) with allegations that he believes lack sufficient evidence.
He questioned the substance of what he described as scandals involving NDC officials, arguing that accusations against public officeholders should be supported by credible information rather than political disagreements.
To reinforce his argument, Bongo Ideas compared the current controversy with the reported attendance of a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) at the Taste of Africa event in 2023.
He suggested that the differing reactions to the two situations raised questions about whether similar conduct by senior security officials was being judged consistently.
His comments have added to the debate over the personal activities of public officials and the standards to which they should be held.
While some may view the attendance of senior security officers at entertainment events as an ordinary personal choice, others may raise questions about professionalism, public expectations and the responsibilities attached to their positions.
Ultimately, the debate centres on balancing the right of public officials to enjoy private lives with the need to maintain public confidence in the institutions they lead.
