Sithebe Begins a New Chapter at Flamingo FC
Former Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has joined Flamingo FC, a fourth-division club competing in the SAFA King Cetshwayo Regional League Stream B, as he looks to continue his football career after spending more than a year outside professional football.
The 33-year-old midfielder has experienced different stages in his career, including representing some of South Africa’s well-known clubs and earning two appearances for Bafana Bafana in 2020. His move to Flamingo FC presents an opportunity to return to regular football while using his experience to help the team achieve its ambitions.
Sithebe has been without a place in a professional setup since leaving Richards Bay in February last year. He joined the KwaZulu-Natal-based club with the hope of rebuilding his career after a difficult period, but he struggled to establish himself as a regular member of the team.
During his time at Richards Bay, the midfielder made only eight appearances before leaving to join Mbombela United. His latest move to Flamingo FC now gives him another opportunity to remain active in the game and contribute to a club competing at regional level.
Before his spell at Richards Bay, Sithebe enjoyed some of the best football of his career at AmaZulu FC. He became an important player for Usuthu, making 132 appearances and contributing eight goals and nine assists during his time at the club.
His performances at AmaZulu helped him secure a move to Kaizer Chiefs, where he was expected to strengthen the midfield and establish himself as an important player for the Soweto giants.
However, his time at Chiefs did not produce the results many had anticipated. Sithebe made 39 appearances across all competitions for Amakhosi but failed to score a goal during his spell at the club.
After leaving Chiefs, the midfielder moved to Richards Bay in an attempt to revive his career, but he was unable to make a significant impact before his departure.
Flamingo FC have now confirmed his arrival and will hope that his experience at professional level can make a difference to the team. Having played for established clubs such as AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs, Sithebe brings valuable knowledge of the demands of competitive football.
The club will be hoping that the former Bafana Bafana international can help strengthen the squad as they pursue promotion to the third division.
For Sithebe, the move represents a fresh opportunity to continue playing football and demonstrate that he still has something to offer. His immediate challenge will be to settle into the team, regain regular match fitness and help Flamingo FC compete for promotion.
