Sam George Sends A Strong Message To The Whole Of Africa

Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has urged African countries to stop depending too much on foreign-developed technologies and invest in digital solutions that meet the continent’s needs.

Speaking at Digital Economy Live 2026 at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, the minister said Africa must develop the ability to create and manage its own technologies if it wants to compete in the global digital economy.

According to Sam George, African countries cannot continue to depend heavily on solutions developed outside the continent while ignoring their own skills, resources and technological potential.

He stressed that Africa needs digital systems that understand its local languages, cultures and development challenges. Such solutions, he argued, would help make technology more useful and accessible to people across the continent.

The minister also called for greater investment in local innovation and the development of digital skills. He believes African countries must strengthen their ability to create, adapt and regulate technology instead of relying mainly on products imported from other parts of the world.

His comments highlight the need for African governments, technology companies and other stakeholders to support local developers and businesses working to solve problems through digital innovation.

Africa’s growing use of digital services presents opportunities in areas such as education, healthcare, business and public administration. However, building local technological capacity will require investment, effective policies and cooperation between governments and the private sector.

Sam George’s message at the October 2026 event was clear: African countries must take a more active role in shaping their digital future rather than depending too heavily on foreign solutions.

The call has renewed attention on the importance of developing homegrown technology that can support Africa’s economic growth and meet the needs of its people.
