Ruto Reveals KSh220 Billion Investment Plan for Zimbabwe After Introducing Investor to Mnangagwa

President William Ruto has said he introduced an African investor to Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, with the investor reportedly planning to invest KSh220 billion in Zimbabwe.

The proposed investment could be a major boost to Zimbabwe’s economy if the plans are confirmed and implemented. However, the identity of the investor, the sectors targeted and the expected timeline for the investment have not yet been clearly established.

Ruto’s remarks come at a time when African leaders are pushing for stronger economic partnerships, increased trade and investment within the continent. Governments across Africa have been looking for ways to attract investors who can support businesses, create jobs and improve the living standards of their citizens. The reported investment would be significant for Zimbabwe, a country that has faced economic challenges over the years, including currency instability, high living costs and difficulties attracting sufficient foreign investment.

Kenya and Zimbabwe have maintained diplomatic relations and have continued to explore opportunities for cooperation in trade, agriculture, tourism and business.

Ruto has repeatedly called on African countries to increase trade among themselves rather than depend heavily on markets outside the continent. Stronger partnerships between African governments can help businesses reach new markets and encourage investors to support projects across national borders.

The Kenyan President’s engagement with Mnangagwa reflects the broader effort to strengthen relations between African countries and promote economic development through cooperation.

Ruto arrived in Harare on October 21, 2026, ahead of the 25th COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit. The meeting, scheduled for October 22, brings together leaders from 21 member countries to discuss regional trade, investment and industrial development.

The summit is being held under the theme of advancing industrialisation, investment and regional integration. Leaders are expected to discuss ways of improving trade between member states and making it easier for businesses to operate across borders.

Zimbabwe hopes to use the meeting to promote its investment opportunities and strengthen its position in regional trade. Investment in manufacturing, agriculture, energy and infrastructure could help the country expand production and create more jobs if suitable projects receive funding.

If the reported KSh220 billion investment goes ahead, it could open new opportunities for Zimbabwean businesses and workers. Large investments can support the construction of facilities, improve production and create demand for local suppliers.

However, the impact would depend on the nature of the projects, the source of the funds and the terms agreed upon by the investor and the Zimbabwean government.
