Remi Tinubu extends food outreach to Osun

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has extended the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Food Outreach Scheme to Osun State, with Ogun and Akwa Ibom named as the next beneficiaries.

The development makes Osun the 31st state to benefit from the programme, which provides food items to persons with disabilities, widows and other vulnerable groups.

Tinubu, who was represented at the presentation by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, handed over the food items to the wife of the Osun State Governor and RHI coordinator in the state, Mrs Titilola Adeleke, for onward distribution.

The Food Outreach Scheme was launched in March 2024 to provide nutritional support to vulnerable Nigerians and strengthen the wellbeing of families across the country.

Speaking at the event, Tinubu said the initiative was designed to complement President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by supporting citizens regardless of their circumstances.

“The initiative was designed to complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR by ensuring that vulnerable citizens receive the support they need irrespective of their status or circumstances.”

She said the programme had been sustained through the support of two partners who provide two truckloads of food items to RHI every month, allowing the initiative to support two states monthly.

The partners are the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) and an anonymous donor. Tinubu said the food items presented in Osun were supplied entirely by the anonymous donor.

“This particular supply we are distributing today in Osun is entirely from our anonymous donor. I thank both partners for their deep generosity and sustained commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in Nigeria” Sen. Oluremi Tinubu said.

Tinubu also disclosed that Ogun and Akwa Ibom would be the next beneficiaries of the scheme.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, commended the initiative and described food intervention as a humanitarian action that addresses the needs of less privileged citizens.

He said the idea of food banks and support systems should be emulated at all levels of government and assured that the Osun State Government would support the sustainability of the programme.

Mrs Titilola Adeleke said the intervention had added to efforts to improve the welfare of vulnerable residents in the state.

She noted that other RHI programmes had supported elderly citizens, petty traders, farmers, students and residents requiring healthcare assistance.

The Food Outreach Scheme is part of RHI’s broader social intervention programmes aimed at supporting Nigerians facing economic and social vulnerabilities.

The programme also reflects the traditional Nigerian culture of communal support, where food is often shared with people in need as a way of strengthening communities and caring for vulnerable members of society.
