President William Ruto Set to Tour 3 Opposition Strongholds Amid Search for Political Backing, More

President William Ruto is set to tour Makueni, Machakos and Kitui counties on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in a visit to three Ukambani counties that have historically leaned towards opposition politics.

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse confirmed the visit on Thursday, October 22, saying Ruto would commission completed projects, inspect ongoing works and launch new development initiatives.

The tour will cover ten constituencies across the three counties, although Mutuse said a detailed itinerary would be released later.

In Makueni County, Ruto is expected to visit Mbooni, Kaiti and Kibwezi East constituencies.

His schedule in Machakos includes Mwala, Yatta and Masinga, while the Kitui leg will cover Mwingi North, Mwingi Central, Kitui West and Kitui Rural.

Mutuse urged local leaders and residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome the president and his entourage during the visit.

The lawmaker described Ruto as a leader for all Kenyans, regardless of their tribal, regional or political affiliations, as he welcomed him to southeastern Kenya.

The visit comes as political leaders prepare for the 2027 General Election, with Ukambani among the regions where Ruto is seeking to strengthen his political support.

The president has also been touring other parts of the country to commission development projects and inspect ongoing government works.

However, some of these visits have attracted controversy over projects involving national and county governments.

Recently, Ruto’s activities in Trans Nzoia sparked a dispute with Governor George Natembeya over a level five hospital and the new Masinde Muliro Market in Kitale.

The county government maintained that it had built the two projects, bringing attention to disagreements over the roles of national and county governments in development projects.

Mutuse’s announcement did not provide the exact timings for the planned stops, with a more detailed itinerary expected to be released later.
