“One Boyfriend Cannot Give You GH¢600 You Have To Date Multiple Men To Buy Your Materials”—Lady Says

According to a Post by ABNMedia on Facebook Official account on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, an apprentice hairdresser in a rural part of Ghana’s Ashanti Region has attracted public attention after suggesting that dating multiple men could help young women raise money to buy materials needed for their practical training.

The young lady reportedly made the statement during an interview at her workplace, while her madam was present. She explained that apprentices often struggle financially when they are expected to purchase the items required to learn and practise their chosen skills.

According to her, an apprentice who relies on just one boyfriend may find it difficult to obtain the GH¢600 needed to buy the necessary materials. She therefore suggested that having multiple men who could provide financial assistance might make it easier to cover such expenses.

Her remarks have generated discussions about the financial difficulties faced by young women learning vocational skills in Ghana. While some may view her comments as a reflection of the economic struggles apprentices experience, others may question whether depending on romantic partners is the best way to finance their training.

Apprenticeships are designed to equip young people with practical knowledge that can help them earn a living in the future. However, the cost of purchasing tools and other essential materials can become a major challenge for those who lack adequate financial support.

Her comments have also drawn attention to the responsibility of families, training masters and communities in helping apprentices complete their education without unnecessary financial pressure.

The situation raises an important question about whether enough support is available for young people who want to learn a trade and become financially independent.
