Obuasi SHS Saga: What NDC Has Said About Headteacher’s Fate Amid Abuse Allegations

The Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Amos Blessing Armose, has defended the party’s decision to ask the headteacher of Obuasi Senior High Technical School to step aside amid allegations of abuse involving students.

Armose clarified that the party had neither dismissed nor suspended the headteacher but had requested that he temporarily vacate his position while the allegations were addressed through the appropriate procedures.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, he explained that the wording of the party’s letter was intended to make clear that the directive was not a disciplinary dismissal or suspension.

He said the decision was aimed at allowing the matter to be investigated without the party prejudging the headteacher before the relevant processes had been completed.

According to Armose, the headteacher had complied with the request and submitted a letter confirming that he had stepped aside.

He further disclosed that the headteacher had resigned from his position as constituency secretary.

Armose maintained that the NDC could not unilaterally dismiss the headteacher without following the applicable laws and established procedures.

He added that the party had called on the relevant authorities, particularly the Ghana Education Service (GES), to take the necessary steps to ensure the allegations were handled appropriately.

The regional youth organiser stressed that the objective was to allow the matter to proceed through the proper channels so that the alleged victims could obtain justice if the allegations were established.

He maintained that the party’s position was guided by the need to protect the rights of both the headteacher and the students involved while ensuring that the allegations received the necessary attention.
