Nkechi Told Me To Pick Children Roaming The Streets And Bring Them For A Reward – Suspect
A suspect arrested over alleged child trafficking has accused a woman identified as Madame Nkechi of instructing her to pick up children found roaming the streets and bring them to her in exchange for compensation.
The suspect made the allegation in a video shared by Channels Television, where she reportedly confessed to her involvement in the alleged crime. She was arrested alongside other suspects by the police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to her account, she met Nkechi last year and received her phone number. She alleged that Nkechi later approached her with an offer to work with her by identifying children roaming the streets, taking them into her care and bringing them to her in return for a promised reward.
The suspect claimed that Nkechi told her she operated an orphanage and assured her that she would be compensated for bringing the children to her.
In her words, “I just met Madam Nkechi last year; she gave me her number and asked me if I could work with her, like if I see any child roaming the streets and pick her up, that she has an orphanage. I should bring the child, and she’s going to compensate me.”
Another suspect arrested in connection with the alleged operation also gave an account of her involvement. She claimed that she worked as a cleaner at Nkechi’s residence and was once instructed to travel to Onitsha to deliver a baby to a woman.
Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police reportedly disclosed that some of the suspects had previously been convicted in 2024 and sentenced to four months in prison before they were released.
