Lionel Messi has reflected on his successful spell at Barcelona, saying the team was fortunate not only to win major trophies but also to enjoy the journey and the style of football that defined their achievements.
The Argentine forward said the memorable moments he shared with his former teammates at the Spanish club remained special to him, adding that Barcelona would always hold a unique place in his heart.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on X on Thursday, the ex-Argentina captain was quoted as saying, “In Barcelona, we were lucky to win everything… not only because of what we achieved, but also because of the way we did it, and how much we enjoyed playing, winning, and achieving important milestones,” Messi said.
“We loved the beautiful moments we spent together,” he added.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner also reiterated his emotional connection to the club and the city, describing the affection he continues to feel for both.
“Barcelona means a lot to me. I feel special love for the city, the club. It will always be like this,” he said.
Messi enjoyed a remarkable career at Barcelona, where he developed into one of football’s most celebrated players and helped the club secure numerous domestic and international honours.
His time at the Camp Nou was marked by major successes, including multiple La Liga titles and UEFA Champions League triumphs, alongside individual awards that cemented his status among the game’s greatest players.
The forward left Barcelona in 2021 after the club was unable to renew his contract amid financial difficulties, bringing an end to a senior career at the club that began in 2004.
Despite his departure, Messi’s latest remarks underline his enduring affection for Barcelona and the memories he created during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
