Malema Fires Warning at ANC: Eastern Cape Residents Will Continue to Suffer if Party Stays in Power

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has criticised the African National Congress (ANC), warning that people in the Eastern Cape could continue facing hardship if the ruling party remains in power.

Malema made the remarks while addressing thousands of EFF supporters in KuGompo City during the party’s election campaign ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

During his address, the EFF leader took aim at the ANC’s leadership, questioning its record in government and highlighting the difficulties affecting communities across the province. He urged voters to consider political change, arguing that alternative leadership could offer a different approach to addressing their concerns.

According to Malema, allowing the ANC to retain its political dominance would leave many Eastern Cape residents struggling with challenges that have persisted under successive administrations.

The Eastern Cape remains a significant political battleground, with unemployment, poverty, inadequate basic services and infrastructure challenges featuring prominently in election debates. These issues have become key concerns as political parties compete for voters’ support.

Malema’s comments form part of the EFF’s broader campaign to challenge the ANC’s performance in government and present itself as an alternative for residents dissatisfied with the current political leadership.

Addressing the gathering in KuGompo City, Malema sought to mobilise supporters behind the EFF’s campaign message, encouraging voters to think carefully about the consequences of their choices at the ballot box.

The EFF has consistently promoted economic transformation, job creation, improved public services and accountability in government. Its leaders regularly criticise the ANC over persistent socio-economic difficulties, particularly those affecting working-class communities and disadvantaged households.

Malema’s remarks place renewed attention on whether the ANC has done enough to improve living conditions in the Eastern Cape. However, the province’s challenges involve several areas of governance, including municipal service delivery, provincial administration, economic development and infrastructure investment.

Evaluating the performance of government requires examining specific policies, administrative decisions and measurable results across these areas.

The ANC has historically maintained a strong political presence in the Eastern Cape, but opposition parties are seeking to gain ground by appealing to residents concerned about unemployment, poverty and service delivery.

The EFF’s rally in KuGompo City highlights its efforts to expand its support base and persuade voters to consider its political programme ahead of the local government elections.

Although thousands of people attended the gathering, rally attendance alone does not determine how voters will ultimately cast their ballots.

As campaigning continues, political parties are expected to step up their efforts to convince residents that their policies and leadership can improve conditions in local communities.

Malema’s warning has added to the political contest in the Eastern Cape, with the EFF leader arguing that the province needs a different political direction. Ultimately, voters will decide whether they agree with his assessment based on their experiences, priorities and views of the parties contesting the elections.
