Larsen Breaks Silence: Former Carling Knockout King Speaks Out After Unexpected Exit
Clinton Larsen Breaks Silence on His Next Move After Shock Venda FC Exit
Former Magesi FC and Venda FC head coach Clinton Larsen has provided an indication of his future plans following his unexpected departure from the Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit, with the experienced tactician remaining a name to watch in South African football.
Larsen parted ways with Venda FC in September 2026 after the club endured a disappointing start to the 2026/27 campaign. The decision brought an end to his tenure in Limpopo, despite having been retained following a ninth-place finish in the previous season.
The experienced coach had arrived at Venda with the responsibility of improving the team’s performances and helping the club compete more consistently in the second tier. However, results did not go according to plan, with the team collecting just one point from their opening five league matches.
According to reports, the two parties agreed to separate by mutual consent after discussions about the club’s direction. The departure forced Venda to search for a new technical leader as they looked to rescue their campaign.
Larsen’s exit attracted attention because of his previous achievements at Magesi FC, where he established himself as one of the coaches capable of producing significant results with limited resources.
During his time at Magesi, he helped the club secure promotion to the Betway Premiership before guiding them to the 2024 Carling Knockout trophy. That achievement remains an important milestone in his coaching career and demonstrated his ability to compete against some of South Africa’s biggest clubs.
Despite the disappointing conclusion to his Venda FC spell, Larsen’s experience across several South African clubs could make him an attractive option should opportunities arise elsewhere.
The coach has previously worked with Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows, Chippa United and Polokwane City, giving him extensive knowledge of the domestic football landscape.
His next decision will therefore be important, particularly as clubs continue to assess their technical departments during a demanding season.
Meanwhile, Venda FC have moved forward by appointing Kaitano Tembo as their new head coach. The former SuperSport United mentor has been tasked with improving results and steering the club away from danger.
For Larsen, the immediate priority appears to be assessing the opportunities available before committing to another project. His experience suggests that a return to coaching cannot be ruled out, although any potential appointment will depend on the right offer and the ambitions of the interested club.
South African football has repeatedly shown how quickly circumstances can change for coaches. A difficult spell at one club does not necessarily define an entire career, particularly for a tactician who has already demonstrated his ability to win silverware.
Larsen’s next move will consequently be watched with interest as supporters wait to discover where his coaching journey will continue. Whether he returns to the Premiership or takes charge of another ambitious lower-division side, his next assignment could provide an opportunity to rebuild momentum and restore his reputation.
