Just-In: Former President Akufo-Addo Speaks The Truth To Ghanaians
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has denied allegations that he attempted to influence the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) schedule for its internal primaries or forthcoming National Delegates Conference.
A statement from his office dismissed the claims as completely false, insisting that the former president had made no direct or indirect effort to persuade party officials to change the dates or arrangements for the planned activities.
His office also explained that Akufo-Addo had been outside the country and had not recently engaged NPP leaders in discussions about altering the party’s programme.
According to the statement, the allegations were being spread by individuals motivated by personal interests rather than a genuine concern for the party’s welfare.
The controversy comes as the NPP prepares for its Annual Delegates Conference at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The gathering is expected to consider several proposed amendments to the party’s constitution, including recommendations from the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee and an earlier proposal introduced during the party’s 2019 conference in Kumasi.
Organised under the theme “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” the conference is intended to promote unity, reaffirm the party’s founding principles and strengthen its internal structures ahead of future political contests.
Party officials have also stressed the importance of maintaining discipline and order throughout the event. Security preparations are expected to involve the party’s security personnel working alongside relevant national agencies.
Delegates will be required to comply with established procedures to ensure the conference proceeds smoothly and efficiently.
Although discussions about the timing of internal primaries and proposed party reforms have attracted public attention, Akufo-Addo’s office maintains that the claims linking him to efforts to change the schedule are unfounded.
Attention is now turning to the conference, where delegates are expected to deliberate on constitutional reforms, internal organisation and the party’s future direction.
