Government and Organised Labour to Meet Over 2027 Salary Increase for Public Workers

According to a report by ChannelOne News published on October 22, 2026, the salaries of public sector workers in Ghana could be affected by upcoming negotiations as the government and organised labour prepare to continue discussions on the 2027 National Base Pay.

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has invited representatives of the government’s negotiating team and Organised Labour to a meeting aimed at determining the national base pay for the 2027 financial year.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ghana Employers Association Conference Room.

In an invitation letter dated October 20, 2026, the Chief Executive of the FWSC, Dr. George Smith-Graham, explained that the meeting forms part of the commission’s mandate to determine the 2027 National Base Pay in line with the government’s broader public sector pay policy.

The commission indicated that the discussions are part of a structured consultation process intended to promote fairness, equity and sustainability in Ghana’s public sector compensation system. Participants have also been urged to arrive on time to ensure a smooth and productive meeting.

The outcome of the negotiations will be significant for public sector employees whose salaries fall under the Single Spine Pay Structure. The 2027 National Base Pay will determine the upward adjustment of their salaries for the year.

However, the meeting is intended to continue engagements towards reaching a determination. The report does not indicate that an agreement on the percentage salary increase has already been reached.

The FWSC is the statutory body responsible for negotiating public sector base pay and promoting fair wages and salaries in Ghana. The commission is also in transition towards the proposed Independent Public Emoluments Commission, which is expected to take over responsibilities relating to public sector remuneration.

As discussions continue, public sector workers will be watching for further developments and an eventual announcement on the 2027 base pay adjustment.
