Government Agencies Must Patch PHP Security Flaws Now

Ghana’s government agencies have been given a strict seven-day deadline to fix major security holes in their website software. This directive from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) is a serious warning about hacking.

What this means for you is that the websites and digital services you use from government bodies could be at risk if these patches are not applied quickly. If these holes are left open, bad actors could take control of those servers without needing any passwords.

In a joint alert on Thursday, October 22, the two agencies demanded that all government institutions fix issues in PHP software immediately.

The specific security problems are known as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, often called ‘PHP2Shell.’

These flaws are dangerous because they let attackers take over servers without needing usernames or passwords, which could expose private information and stop public services from working properly.

The agencies stressed that just updating website designs or plugins is not enough; the core PHP software itself needs to be updated.

They have released specific versions that fix these problems:

If a government office cannot fix the issue right away, they are advised to temporarily take the affected services offline until the security fixes are in place.

Heads of these government institutions must make sure their IT teams act fast and report back to the CSA and NITA within the seven-day window.

NITA will help with the technical side of government digital tools, while CSA will handle reporting any security incidents.

This highlights the importance of keeping digital systems strong to protect the data of all Ghanaians.

What should you do? As a user, you should remain alert about unusual activity on any official government portal you use. If you notice something strange, report it to the relevant agency.
