Ghanaians Rate NPP’s Chances of Returning to Power on a Scale of 1–10 After 15 Months in Opposition
A Facebook post by Ghanaian lawyer and social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has triggered widespread discussion after he asked the public to rate their desire for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to return to government in the 2028 general elections on a scale of 1 to 10.
The question attracted hundreds of responses, revealing sharply divided opinions about the opposition party’s political prospects.
A significant number of participants rated the NPP -10, expressing strong opposition to the party regaining power.
Many of these comments received considerable engagement through likes and replies, indicating that the views resonated with other users.
In contrast, some commenters gave the party a score of 10, insisting that it should be given another chance to lead the country. They pointed to what they considered the party’s achievements in government and expressed optimism about its chances in the upcoming elections.
However, these supportive comments appeared to attract less engagement than those opposing the NPP’s return.
Some users chose a middle ground by assigning the party a score of zero. Others moved beyond the rating exercise to discuss the NPP’s record in office, its position as Ghana’s main opposition party and the changes they believe are necessary for it to regain voters’ trust ahead of 2028.
The reactions highlight the wide range of political views among Ghanaians as attention gradually shifts towards the next presidential and parliamentary elections. The NPP’s efforts to restore its public support after leaving government have also kept its political future in the spotlight.
Social media has increasingly provided a platform for citizens to debate national concerns, assess public sentiment and share their perspectives on political developments. Nevertheless, the views expressed online should not automatically be taken as a reflection of the entire electorate, since participation is voluntary.
Barker-Vormawor’s post has therefore added to the ongoing conversation about the NPP’s prospects in 2028, highlighting the differing opinions over whether the party should return to power as the elections approach.
