Emenike Hospital Attacked Days After Footballer Criticised Alleged Corruption in Imo

The hospital owned by former Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Emenike in Imo State reportedly came under attack on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, days after the footballer publicly criticised alleged corruption and embezzlement of public funds in the state.

Emenike, who disclosed the incident in an emotional Instagram post, said he was deeply pained by the development, describing the hospital as a facility meant to provide care, comfort, and hope to people in his home state.

The former Nigerian international said he chose to invest in Imo after representing Nigeria internationally, playing in Europe and celebrating the country’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph.

He said establishing the hospital demonstrated his faith in his people and his commitment to contributing to the state’s development.

Reacting to the reported attack, Emenike called for immediate protection and support for the hospital, its staff and patients.

“A place built to care for people should never become a place where patients are afraid, and staff are left feeling unsafe,” he said.

The footballer also urged the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of healthcare facilities and residents, stressing that Imo State deserved investment and its people deserved security.

It was a gesture of faith in my people and a commitment to helping my home state thrive. That is why the reports of what happened today 21st Octobe, 2026 at Emenike Hospital are so painful.
