Dutch-Born Striker Agrees To Play For Super Eagles
According to a report by BBC Sport on Thursday October 22, 2026, Nigeria’s senior national team could soon welcome another forward of Nigerian heritage, following the recent decision by George Ilenikhena to commit his international future to the Super Eagles.
Ilenikhena, who was born in Nigeria and grew up in France, was eligible to represent both countries. However, he chose Nigeria and has already featured for the national team during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to reports, another striker born in the Netherlands to Nigerian parents is now prepared to represent the West African nation at international level.
The forward has reportedly made contact with a representative of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, indicating his interest in switching his international allegiance to Nigeria.
Unlike some players who have already represented another country at youth level, the Dutch-born striker has not played for any national team. This leaves him eligible to receive a call-up from Nigeria, provided he meets the necessary requirements.
Chelle has previously expressed his willingness to strengthen both the under-23 team and the senior national side by recruiting eligible players with Nigerian roots. He currently oversees both teams.
The report further reveals that the Nigerian coach has initiated the process of having the striker closely monitored before making a final decision on whether to invite him to the national team.
If the evaluation proves positive, Nigeria could add another attacking option to its squad as the Super Eagles continue exploring talented players with Nigerian heritage.
