Duduzane Zuma Warns MK Party Faces Coordinated Attack β Candidate List No Longer Under Their Control
Duduzane Zuma has raised concerns over the internal challenges facing the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, telling supporters that the organisation is struggling to maintain control over its candidate selection process amid ongoing disputes and legal challenges.
Addressing a gathering of party supporters, the son of former South African President Jacob Zuma described what he viewed as a coordinated attempt to weaken the political movement. He maintained that the party was facing pressure from different directions but insisted that those efforts would not succeed in destroying the organisation.
During his address, Duduzane acknowledged the difficulties surrounding the candidate list process, admitting that the situation had moved beyond the party’s immediate control. “We know the process is no longer under our control,” he stated, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the selection of candidates for future electoral contests.
Although he did not identify the individuals or groups allegedly working against the party, he encouraged members to remain committed to the movement and continue working towards its political objectives despite the challenges.
MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela confirmed that Duduzane had addressed supporters but declined to provide further clarification about the people or structures he believed were attempting to undermine the organisation.
The controversy comes amid continuing legal disputes involving the party’s candidate lists. Previous Electoral Court interventions have complicated aspects of its electoral preparations, while ongoing litigation has added pressure to its efforts to resolve internal disagreements.
Since its impressive performance in South Africa’s May 2024 general elections, the MK Party has experienced considerable internal tensions. The party secured more than 14 per cent of the national vote during its electoral debut, emerging as a significant political force and challenging the dominance of established parties.
However, disagreements over leadership authority, branch representation and compliance with the party’s constitution have subsequently exposed divisions within its structures. These disputes have also attracted attention from the Independent Electoral Commission as questions surrounding the party’s internal processes continue.
The gathering reflected the uncertainty among supporters, some of whom are seeking reassurance about the organisation’s future. While Duduzane’s remarks appeared intended to strengthen confidence, several important questions remain unanswered.
The party must now address its candidate selection dispute, navigate ongoing court proceedings and manage internal divisions before future electoral deadlines intensify the pressure.
Whether the MK Party can resolve these challenges and preserve unity remains uncertain. The identity of those allegedly attempting to weaken the movement, as suggested by Duduzane, has not been established publicly, leaving supporters waiting for clearer answers about the party’s direction.
