Dangote Cement drivers discussed road safety, workplace welfare and operational challenges at a safety retreat organised by the company in Ogun State.
The discussions took place during the 2026 Driversâ Safety Retreat for personnel at the companyâs Ibese plant. Participants considered issues affecting their work, including rising living costs, work-related expenses and delays in receiving drug-test results.
The Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, Arvind Pathak, said the company recognised the importance of listening to employees and supporting their welfare alongside its investment in training and safer transport operations.
âWe appreciate the sacrifices you make every day to keep our business moving. That is why we are committed not only to providing you with the tools and training to work safely, but also to listening to your concerns and improving your welfare,â Pathak said.
The retreat, themed Think Safety, Act Safely, also focused on risks drivers face on the road, including speeding, fatigue and reckless driving.
Pathak urged drivers to prioritise safety over delivery schedules and to stop and rest when tired rather than continue driving in unsafe conditions.
âWe can replace a truck; we cannot replace a human being,â he said.
He added, âIf you are tired, stop and rest. If a situation looks unsafe, do not take chances. The goal is not just to reach your destination; the goal is to return home safely to your family.â
The Aboro of Ibeseland, Oba Rotimi Oluseyi Mulero, also encouraged drivers to rest when fatigued, noting the importance of returning safely to their families.
The companyâs Head of Transport, Murilo Silva, cautioned against reckless driving, proxy driving and other unsafe transport practices.
Eight drivers, four fleet officers and one STM recipient received awards for their performance and commitment to safety.
The retreat provided an opportunity for the company and its drivers to discuss safety priorities, welfare concerns and ways to support safer transport operations.
