BRIEF: Why Opposition is Unlikely to Unite, Food Prices Set to Rise and Ruto Out to Surrender Role
Good Morning and welcome to your daily brief. The heat has been immense and exhausting over night so best we can do is keep this plain and simple.
We start with the man at the top, William Ruto. The president is away in Zimbabwe to attend the 25th Head of States COMESA Summit that starts later today in Harare.
He is there to hand over the chairmanship of the regional bloc to Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and left just a day after the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
Political commentator Javas Bigambo believes that a united opposition front going up against the incumbent is unlikely to happen in next year’s general election.
He points to yesterday’s meeting between Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua as the clearest evidence yet that the opposition is not fully ready to work together.
Sifuna and Gachagua met without the knowledge of other key opposition principals such as Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiangi.
Will all these aspirants who also include Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro give up their ambitions and support one man against the current President next year?

Finally, we end with some rather not so good news. With the school holidays in full swing, Kenyans and especially parents are about to feel the pinch in their pockets with inflation rates set to be on the rise.
The recent fuel price hike is expected to have some domino effects that will see food prices also rocket from this month heading into the new year.
