Bafana Bafana Star Ruled Out of UEFA Match Due to Injury

Bafana Bafana winger Thapelo Maseko will miss FC Copenhagen’s UEFA Conference League clash against Crvena Zvezda after suffering a hamstring injury, leaving the Danish side without the South African international for the European fixture in Belgrade, Serbia.

Maseko’s absence comes at an important stage of his European career, as playing in continental competitions would have provided another opportunity to gain experience and establish himself at club level. However, his current injury means he must continue his recovery rather than feature against the Serbian opponents.

FC Copenhagen announced a 23-man squad for the encounter, with Maseko included among the players unavailable due to injury. Midfielder Magnus Mattsson is also sidelined, while Alex Král will not be available for selection for the match.

The injuries present a challenge for Copenhagen’s coaching staff, who must adjust their plans and identify suitable replacements ahead of the encounter. With several players unavailable, the Danish team will depend on those selected to deliver a competitive performance away from home.

Maseko’s immediate focus will be regaining full fitness before returning to action. Hamstring injuries can interfere with a footballer’s acceleration, pace and ability to change direction quickly, making adequate rehabilitation essential. Meanwhile, FC Copenhagen still have several experienced players available for the European fixture. Mohamed Elyounoussi, Andreas Cornelius, Thomas Delaney and goalkeeper Diant Ramaj are among those included in the 23-man squad. Their presence offers the coaching team different options as they prepare to face Crvena Zvezda.

The Serbian club will have the advantage of playing on home soil, while Copenhagen will attempt to overcome their injury concerns and secure a positive result.
