AP Commander Gakami Wanjuhi’s Dagoretti Visit Draws Praise as Kenyans React to Viral Video
A video showing Administration Police Commander Dr Gakami Wanjuhi visiting a construction site in Dagoretti has attracted widespread attention online, with Kenyans praising her friendly interactions with workers and her presence on the ground.
The footage was shared on social media by influencer Oxygenn Kenya, who urged Kenyans to support the senior police officer. The clip showed Wanjuhi arriving at the site in high spirits before greeting people gathered around the ongoing project.
Dressed in a green-and-brown camouflage uniform, Wanjuhi appeared relaxed as she exchanged greetings with the workers. She also walked around the site, acknowledging the people present as they went about their activities.
A backhoe was visible in the background, suggesting that construction or ground preparation work was underway. However, the specific purpose of the project and Wanjuhi’s role in it were not immediately established in the footage.
The video quickly attracted reactions from social media users, many of whom focused on the commander’s approachable demeanour and the importance of public service.
Levi Nyaendo Onyanyo II praised her, describing her as one of the best female senior police officers.
Grace Karagi highlighted the importance of serving the public, writing: “Service to humanity is service to God. Keep up the good work.”
Simon Njagi also expressed support for the commander, declaring that Kenyans were behind her.
Other viewers responded with humour and admiration. Raphael Cush jokingly asked whether Wanjuhi was married, adding that he was asking on behalf of a friend.
Another commenter, Ñi Ôkwonkwõ, joined the playful conversation with a remark about wanting her to arrest him.
The mixture of praise and humorous comments helped draw further attention to the clip, although the reactions reflected individual opinions expressed online rather than an official assessment of the commander’s performance.
Wanjuhi’s appearance also attracted attention because of her distinctive outfit. She wore a matching camouflage jacket and trousers over an olive-green top, with a camouflage cap completing the uniform. A brown knitted scarf hung loosely around her neck, while her pink nail polish added a personal touch to her appearance.
Beyond her clothing, much of the discussion centred on the sight of a senior female police commander interacting directly with members of the public in a relaxed setting.
The video comes amid continuing public interest in the appearance and design of uniforms worn by officers serving in Kenya’s security agencies.
In a separate development, President William Ruto unveiled a redesigned National Police Service uniform at the National Police Service Training College in Kiganjo. The updated design brought back a combination of sky blue and dark blue, replacing the all-blue uniform introduced in 2018.
The changes also drew attention to maternity uniforms for expectant police officers, which generated online discussion about the appearance and practicality of police attire.
Although the uniform debate is separate from Wanjuhi’s visit to Dagoretti, both developments have highlighted the public attention attracted by police officers’ appearance, conduct and interactions with Kenyans.
For now, the Dagoretti video has provided social media users with an opportunity to express their views about Wanjuhi, with several commenters applauding her approachability and offering messages of support.
