Agonamanhene bans MP Mavis Nkansah-Boadu from holding events on his land

According to report by Ghonetv on Thursday 22, 2026, the Omanhene of the Agona Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II, has placed a strict ban on Mavis Nkansah-Boadu, the Member of Parliament for Afigya Sekyere East, preventing her from organizing any social events within his traditional jurisdiction. This dramatic ruling stems from what the traditional ruler describes as profoundly disrespectful conduct and a failure to accord him proper recognition.

The tension ignited following an invitation letter dated October 8, 2026, sent by the MP to the traditional ruler. The letter invited him to attend the grand finale of the Mnb Inter-Senior High School Football Tournament, scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Agona Community AstroTurf.

However, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II expressed deep displeasure over how the invitation was addressed, noting that she referred to him simply as “The Chief, Agona Traditional Council” rather than recognizing his true title and authority as the Omanhene.

The chief emphasized that he has undergone all necessary customary rites, including swearing an oath before the Agona Amantuonson on June 4, 2026, and before the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on June 29, 2026. He also noted that he sat in state in early July, offered his Aseda to the Asantehene, and celebrated his maiden Akwasidae.

While other prominent leaders, such as the Municipal Chief Executive Evans Twumasi and local security commanders, have paid proper homage to his authority, the Omanhene stated that the MP has repeatedly failed to show necessary reverence during her visits to the township.

Consequently, the traditional ruler has declared the invitation an insult of the highest order and banned the MP from holding any social events specifically targeting the upcoming football tournament across affected communities including Agona, Bipoa, Wiamoase, Bedomase, Afamanaso, Akrofonso, and Amponynamoa. “I will not allow any misconduct to undermine my authority and for that matter, Asanteman,” the chief firmly declared.
