Woman demands fair share of properties after 18 years of relationship with father of her three child
According to report by Adomonline on Monday 19, October 2026, Afia Birago of Oyoko has appealed to her former partner, Richard Agya Sei, to give her a fair share of the property they acquired together during their 18-year relationship. The former couple, who have three children together, have separated following disagreements over debts, domestic responsibilities and the ownership and use of a house they jointly built.
Speaking on the ‘Obra Show’, hosted by Ohemaa Benewaa, Afia explained that financial difficulties arising from Richard’s alleged debts contributed significantly to the breakdown of their relationship.
According to her, their relationship took a different turn after they completed their house, as people frequently visited to demand money Richard allegedly owed them.
Afia recounted that the situation became increasingly difficult, particularly after a spiritualist reportedly contacted her from Accra and warned her to be cautious because of the debts. She said the warning contributed to her decision to leave the house with their children and move to her mother’s residence.
Although Richard has reportedly allocated one room in their three-bedroom house to her, Afia believes the arrangement does not adequately address her concerns, especially after learning that he intends to marry another woman. She also expressed disappointment that, despite their 18 years together, the two never formally married.
Richard, however, presented a different account of the relationship during the programme. He accused Afia of failing to fulfil certain domestic responsibilities, claiming that she sometimes refused to communicate with him, wash his clothes or engage in intimacy.
He said the situation affected him emotionally and prompted him to travel for some time to recover and reorganise his life. According to Richard, he returned to discover that Afia had left the house.
Richard further explained that he had sent elders to persuade her to return, but their efforts were unsuccessful. He also questioned her demands, arguing that he had already given her a room in the house, which she had reportedly rented out.
Efforts by the ‘Obra Show’ team to reconcile the former partners initially proved unsuccessful. Both parties are reportedly moving on with their lives, with Richard preparing to marry another woman and Afia said to have entered a new relationship.
However, following further mediation by the programme’s team, Richard agreed to provide Afia with an additional room in the house in an attempt to ease tensions and promote peace.
The dispute highlights the challenges that can arise when couples separate after building assets together without a formal marriage. The extent of each person’s contribution to the property and any applicable legal rights may be important considerations in resolving the disagreement.
For now, the additional room represents a step towards a possible settlement, although it remains unclear whether the arrangement will fully address Afia’s request for a fair share of the property they acquired during their long relationship.
