Wike Reveals What He Told Dumo Lulu-Briggs About 2027 Rivers Governorship Race

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that he repeatedly encouraged Dumo Lulu-Briggs, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, to reconsider his ambition and support another contender ahead of the 2027 election.

According to a report by DAILY POST on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Wike made the revelation in a video circulating on social media while discussing his relationship with Lulu-Briggs and their conversations about the state’s political future.

The minister described Lulu-Briggs as a friend but questioned his decision to continue pursuing the governorship position after participating in several unsuccessful attempts. He suggested that the NDC candidate should consider supporting another aspirant instead of contesting again.

“I don’t know the other people contesting in Rivers State, but Dumo has been my friend; I have told him several times, ‘Dumo, how many times will you contest?’” the minister said.

Wike also mentioned Lulu-Briggs’ age, arguing that his experience and financial resources could be put to better use by helping another individual pursue the state’s highest political office.

“You are approaching 70 years old, and you have contested for governor of Rivers State more than eight times; Take your money and sponsor someone else,” Wike stated.

His remarks have drawn attention to the political calculations taking place in Rivers State as aspirants and political parties position themselves for the next election cycle.

During his comments, Wike also expressed confidence in the APC governorship candidate, Kingsley Chinda, indicating where his political preference lies in the emerging contest.

The FCT minister acknowledged that one candidate would eventually win the election but maintained that his principal political priority was securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
