“We Are Ebola Free” Uganda Issues Statement After Nigerian Lady From Uganda Was Found To Have Ebola
Uganda’s Ministry of Health has finally addressed reports of an Ebola case in Nigeria, clarifying the country’s position as investigations continue into where the patient contracted the deadly disease.
In a public statement dated 20 October 2026, the ministry confirmed that Uganda had no active confirmed Ebola cases at the time, despite reports linking the patient’s journey to the country.
According to the statement, the confirmed case involves a Nigerian woman who travelled to eastern Democratic Republic of Congo for business before passing through Uganda in early October.
The woman reportedly had no symptoms while transiting through Uganda but developed them after arriving in Nigeria. This has made the details of her journey important as health authorities seek to establish where she was exposed to the virus.
However, Uganda’s Ministry of Health has made it clear that travelling through the country does not mean the woman contracted Ebola there.
The ministry says the location of exposure is still under investigation, with the Nigerian government yet to provide detailed information about her travel itinerary and clinical history.
That information is expected to help guide further investigations and determine whether contact tracing or other public health measures are necessary.
Meanwhile, the Ugandan government says it will strengthen screening and public health controls at points of entry. The ministry also explained that limited provisions had been maintained for humanitarian and diplomatic movement.
The statement urged Ugandans to remain calm and vigilant, encouraging regular handwashing and sanitising as authorities continue monitoring the situation.
With Uganda denying any active confirmed Ebola cases, the key issue now is where the woman was exposed before falling sick in Nigeria.
