UCL: Lille must make collective effort to stop Victor Osimhen

According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Lille head coach Davide Ancelotti has stressed that his team must work collectively to stop Victor Osimhen ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash with Galatasaray.

Lille are set to host the Turkish champions at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Tuesday night, with the Nigeria international expected to lead Galatasaray’s attack.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Ancelotti acknowledged Osimhen’s quality and insisted that stopping the striker cannot depend on one individual defender.

“We stop him with a collective effort. It doesn’t depend on one player; it always depends on the collective,” the Lille boss said.

Ancelotti also highlighted Osimhen’s impressive impact at Napoli, where the forward played a crucial role in the club’s Serie A title triumph during the 2022–23 season.

The Nigerian striker is known for his pace, strength, aerial ability and movement inside the penalty area, qualities that can make him difficult to contain when he receives good service from his teammates.

Lille will therefore need to remain organised defensively, limit the passes reaching Osimhen and provide support whenever he threatens to break through their defensive line.

However, Galatasaray could also exploit the attention Lille give to their main striker by creating opportunities for other attacking players.
