Today’s Headlines:Obi need serious counselling-Presidency;Wike:Tinubu will trounce fake opposition
Bayo Onanuga, spokesman for President Bola Tinubu, has said that presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi needs serious counselling, citing what he described as a pattern of gaffes, inconsistencies and incoherence.
Onanuga made the remarks in a post on his X account on Wednesday, following reports that Obi had urged Nigerians in the diaspora not to send money home to their relatives.
“Peter Obi needs some counselling, not ordinary counselling. All those gaffes, inconsistencies, and incoherence are forming a worrisome pattern. I seriously think that he needs help,” Onanuga wrote.
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election, has remained a prominent opposition figure ahead of the 2027 general election.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the Rainbow Coalition, will secure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
He promised to deliver massive votes for Tinubu in Rivers State and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), insisting that opposition threats and political intrigues would not derail the President’s re-election bid.
Wike said President Tinubu would trounce ‘fake’ opposition, describing Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi as non-trustworthy politicians.
Addressing Rivers Rainbow Coalition Youths in his home yesterday, the former Rivers State governor said the administration’s infrastructure projects and policy interventions had strengthened its appeal among Nigerians.
The recent revelation by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele that the Federal Government plans to introduce a fuel tax in Nigeria has stirred controversy.
Nigerians are describing it as callous and insensitive to their suffering.
Although the minister clarified that the tax would only be imposed when the Federal Government was satisfied that the economy had stabilised and Nigerians’ incomes had improved sufficiently to accommodate the additional cost, Nigerians have rejected his explanation, with many describing it as another ploy to deceive them and inflict more pain on them.
Oyedele had, during an interview on the sidelines of the 2026 International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, disclosed that the Federal Government would introduce a fuel tax when the economy stabilised and Nigerians’ incomes improved sufficiently to accommodate the additional cost.
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for renewing her tenure and extending her service.
She also warned officers against corruption and compromising official procedures, vowing that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
Nandap spoke in Abuja during a reception organised by officers and personnel to celebrate President Bola Tinubu’s approval of an 18-month extension of her service.
I am grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this tenure extension. We shall work to justify this confidence by ensuring effective, professional and enhanced services to members of the public in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” she said.
