Today’s Headlines: Atiku more experienced than Obi, Tinubu- Dele Momodu; PDP a defunct political party-Ganduje
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Dele Momodu, has described former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the most experienced among the leading contenders for the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu said Atiku’s experience at the national level distinguishes him from President Bola Tinubu and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
He stated this on Wednesday during an interview on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu, monitored by DAILY POST in Abeokuta.
“If you look at the antecedents of the three major candidates, between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, you will see that Atiku is the most experienced. He has managed our country at the highest level,” he said.
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Wednesday, described the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a defunct political party.
Ganduje made the remark while describing a former PDP presidential running mate and ex-governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his brother.
The former governor of Kano State spoke during the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria Annual Conference in Abuja.
Ganduje said, “My big brother, the former governor of Delta State and a former vice presidential candidate of the defunct party, PDP.”
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerian politicians to place national interest above party loyalty and sectional considerations, declaring that Nigeria is greater than any political party and politician in the country.
Jonathan also called for national unity, stronger democratic institutions and greater commitment to good governance, saying former deputy governors had a responsibility to deploy their experience to promote national development.
He spoke on Tuesday at the 5th National Conference of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria in Abuja.
The ex-president, represented by a former Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Bala Ngilari, warned that ethnic, religious and regional divisions remained major obstacles to Nigeria’s political development.
Uganda has clarified that as of Tuesday, October 21, 2026, when Nigerian health authorities confirmed an active case of Ebola in its capital city, Abuja, it had no active case of the virus.
Health Minister, Muhammad Ali, had announced that a female patient who had travelled from Uganda in East Africa, tested positive for the virus.
The Federal Government of Nigeria confirms one case of Ebola disease in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following laboratory confirmation today, 20 October 2026. The patient, a woman who recently arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda, was admitted to a private hospital in the FCT, where she received care for several days before the diagnosis was confirmed. She is currently in isolation and receiving medical care.
“The FG calls on all public and private healthcare facilities nationwide to be on high alert. Healthcare workers must maintain a high index of suspicion, promptly identify and isolate suspected cases, observe strict infection prevention and control measures, and immediately report suspected cases to public health authorities.
The Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on social media, Dada Olusegun, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of trying to exploit the 2020 #EndSARS tragedy to revive what he described as a desperate, increasingly hopeless presidential ambition.
Olusegun, who dismissed Atiku’s renewed demand for accountability over the October 20, 2020, Lekki Toll Gate incident as political opportunism, declared that Nigerians were not gullible enough to mistake the former Vice President’s pursuit of power for genuine concern about their welfare.
In a strongly worded response on his verified X handle, @DOlusegun, the presidential aide accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate of deliberately exploiting the painful memories of the protests to undermine President Tinubu and gain a political advantage ahead of the 2027 elections.
He questioned why Atiku failed to confront the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, under whose administration the incident occurred, during two separate visits after leaving office, only to raise the same questions against Tinubu six years later.
