Tinubu Is Not Our Enemy, Daura Emir Tells Northerners

KANO – The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk Umar, on Wednesday in Kano urged Northerners to support President Bola Tinubu, declaring that the president is not their enemy but a leader committed to the region’s development.

The emir said Tinubu had demonstrated his commitment to national unity by continuing with major infrastructure projects initiated by his predecessor, the late President Muhammadu Buhari, irrespective of regional considerations.

The emir who spoke during the commissioning of sections of the 118-kilometre Abuja–Zaria–Kaduna–Kano highway, described the project as evidence of Tinubu’s determination to advance Nigeria’s development beyond regional sentiments.

He stated that the road project had outlasted several administrations but was now approaching completion under Tinubu, demonstrating the president’s commitment to national progress.

The emir said, ā€œThis alone shows the belief of the President in the unity of Nigeria,ā€ adding that the continuation of inherited projects deserved commendation.

Speaking on his position as the Emir of Daura and leader of Kasar Hausa, Umar said he wanted Northerners to understand that Tinubu had no hostility towards the region but had demonstrated concern for its development.

He cited several ongoing road projects, including the Daura–Kwangwalam road, other roads across Kano and Katsina states, and the Kano–Maiduguri highway, as evidence of the administration’s infrastructure commitments. The monarch also referred to proposed railway connections involving Kano, Abuja and the Niger Republic.

The emir assured Tinubu that the North would not betray the president’s confidence, declaring, ā€œI will, at the appropriate time, tell my people what to do, and I’m promising the President that certainly we will not betray his trust because he will hear from us with the good news.ā€

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Petroleum, Ado Alhassan Doguwa, declared that the North would stand behind Tinubu and support his re-election bid.

Doguwa, who called for an open show of support for the president’s second-term ambition, said the enthusiastic reception he received at the event demonstrated the level of backing for Tinubu.
