Tesla Canada Finally Takes Cybertruck Trade-Ins—at $15,000 Under Auction, Owners Say

Tesla has started accepting Cybertrucks as trade-ins in Canada after refusing them for months, but owners say its offers come in about C$15,000 below what dealers and auctions will pay.

One owner, who posts on X as Dare W (@darewecan), said Tesla offered C$88,400 for his Foundation Series Cybertruck, according to Drive Tesla Canada. He said a dealer had offered C$103,000, a wholesale auction on OpenLane had a winning bid of C$104,700, and dealers are selling similar trucks for C$117,000 to C$119,000.

Another owner in a Canadian Cybertruck Facebook group said Tesla offered C$86,600 for a 2024 Foundation Series AWD with 38,310 km (about 23,800 miles) on it.

Until recently, Tesla Canada wouldn't take Cybertrucks at all. In August, two owners, one with about 72,000 km and one with 120,000 km, told Drive Tesla Canada that they'd been told the company "does not currently accept Cybertrucks as trade-ins," even though Tesla has taken them in the U.S. since May 2025.

New Cybertrucks cost far more in Canada, where the Premium AWD lists at C$139,990 and the Cyberbeast at C$167,990, prices inflated by tariffs on U.S.-built vehicles. Drive Tesla Canada suspects that gap plays a part in the low offers.

Dare W said Tesla's U.S. trade-in offers look healthy by comparison, and that Tesla Canada seems to undervalue its own vehicles, including the Model S and Model X. Tesla hasn't explained the policy change or the offers.

Cybertruck sales have been sliding. Tesla's deliveries of "other models," a group that includes the Cybertruck, fell 48% year over year to 8,295 in the third quarter.

For owners in Canada, the numbers suggest shopping the truck around before taking Tesla's offer.
