Sifuna, Wetang’ula and Mudavadi Share Rare Moment at Mzee Burudi Nabwera’s Requiem Mass.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday joined National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi at the requiem mass of veteran diplomat and former Cabinet Minister Mzee Burudi Nabwera at Friends Church, Lang’ata, Nairobi.
The three leaders attended the service to pay their last respects to Nabwera, whose career spanned diplomacy, parliamentary representation and government service. Sifuna shared photographs of the gathering on his social media account, confirming his attendance at the solemn occasion.
Nabwera, who died on October 8, 2026, served Kenya in several senior public positions. He was the country’s first ambassador to the United States and its first permanent representative to the United Nations.
He also served as Minister of State in the Office of the President and became the first Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency following its creation in 1988. His contribution to Kenya’s diplomatic relations and public administration has drawn tributes from political leaders and members of the public.
The Lang’ata service is part of funeral arrangements announced by the family ahead of his burial scheduled for Saturday, October 24, at his Sango Farm home in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County. A second requiem service is planned for Friday, October 23, at Friends Church in Kiminini.
The meeting between Sifuna, Wetang’ula and Mudavadi comes amid heightened political discussions ahead of the 2027 General Election. The leaders have recently expressed differing views on emerging political movements, opposition strategies and the requirements for mounting a presidential campaign.
However, their gathering at Friends Church was centred on the remembrance of Nabwera and his contribution to the country.
The veteran diplomat’s passing marks the loss of a public servant who played a significant role in Kenya’s early diplomatic engagements and political development.
