Senior Police Officer Found Dead At Road Block After Telling Colleagues He’ll Be Back Shortly

A police officer in Marsabit County was on Tuesday morning found dead shortly after reporting for his shift at the Turbi Police Roadblock along the Marsabit–Moyale highway.

Witnesses say the officer arrived at the roadblock at around 6:00 a.m. and appeared to be in a cheerful mood.

After greeting his colleagues, he mentioned that he needed to step briefly to the nearby Turbi Police Station, which is less than 50 meters away, and would return shortly.

Not long after he left, gunshots were heard. Officers on duty quickly rushed to the scene to investigate. Sadly, they found their colleague lying on the ground in a pool of blood. His service rifle was next to him, with four spent cartridges scattered nearby.

Security officers, including the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), immediately arrived to secure the area and record statements.

Early reports suggest that the officer may have taken his own life. Investigators noted that the fatal bullet appeared to have entered through his chin and exited through his head.

Further examination revealed four bullet holes on the roof of a nearby toilet, believed to have been caused during the incident.

The officer’s body was later moved to Marsabit Mortuary for preservation, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police authorities have since launched a probe to uncover the exact motive behind the tragedy.

Colleagues at the station described the officer as disciplined and hardworking, making the news of his sudden death difficult to accept.
