PSG Winger, Kvaratskhelia To Undergo Surgery After ACL Rupture
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo knee surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during his side’s 4-2 win over Barcelona on Tuesday.
New Telegraph reports that Kvaratskhelia sustained the injury during a challenge with Xavi Espart and was unable to put weight on his right leg as he was substituted in the 59th minute of the Champions League tie.
The injury was announced on the club’s official X account following the Georgian international’s forced withdrawal from Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match against FC Barcelona.
“Kvaratskhelia sustained the injury before the hour mark while tracking back to challenge a Barcelona player. He was unable to put weight on his right leg and had to be helped off the pitch by medical staff,” the post read.
The diagnosis confirmed initial concerns about the severity of the knee injury, dealing a setback to the winger, who had been in strong form for the French champions.
However, PSG have not put a timeline on his return to action.
Kvaratskhelia, 25, helped PSG win back-to-back Champions League titles following his move to the French capital from Napoli in January 2025.
The Georgia international has featured 11 times for PSG this season.
The club also confirmed Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos will be absent for a “few weeks”. Dembele limped off with a left thigh injury while Marquinhos injured his right thigh.
According to the club’s medical update, both players will remain under medical care over the coming weeks as they continue their recovery.
Kvaratskhelia’s recovery timeline will depend on his surgery and subsequent rehabilitation, while Dembélé and Marquinhos will continue to be monitored by the club’s medical team.
