Power Blackouts To Hit Nairobi, Nyeri, Nandi, Kisumu And Migori As KPLC Announces Maintenance

Kenya Power has announced planned maintenance that will interrupt electricity supply in several parts of the country on Thursday October 22. The company said the work is part of routine network upkeep and apologised for any inconvenience.

In Nairobi four zones will be affected. Parts of Mirema including USIU and Safari Park Gardens will lose power from 9am to 5pm. Parts of Spring Valley including Peponi Road and Eldama Park will also be offline during the same hours.

Embakasi areas such as Baraka Estate and Green Corner will go dark from 8am to 5pm. Kasuku and Jabavu including Lenana Road and Jabavu Road will be affected from 9am to 5pm.

Outside the capital parts of Nandi County including Kipyesh and Chemuk will be affected from 9am to 5pm. In Kisumu County the SOS Marera area will lose supply during the same period.

In Migori County the Wang’elong’o and Kabuto zones including Onger and Wath Onger Centre are also listed for the 9am to 5pm shutdown. Residents in these areas should prepare ahead.

The Mt Kenya Region will also feel the impact. In Nyeri County three clusters will be affected between 9am and 5pm. These include Ruring’u Stadium Kiamwathi and Giakanja.

The other clusters cover Kiganjo Police College Kagumo and Kirichu as well as Kiuu Market and Ujamaa. Customers in these areas will have to plan their activities around the downtime.

Kenya Power said the notice was issued on the evening of October 21 and urged customers to plan accordingly. Businesses that rely on electricity such as salons and welding workshops may need to adjust their working hours.

Residents are advised to charge their phones and other essential devices before the outage begins on Thursday.
