NPA Intensifies Quality Checks on Petroleum Products – Edudzi Tameklo

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has announced plans to strengthen its monitoring and quality control measures to ensure that petroleum products supplied to consumers across Ghana comply with approved standards.

Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, said safeguarding the interests of consumers remains a key priority, alongside the NPA’s regulatory responsibilities within the petroleum downstream sector.

He made this known on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, when Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) visited the Authority as part of its oversight activities.

According to Mr Tameklo, the NPA is committed to maintaining strict quality standards throughout the petroleum supply chain to ensure that products reaching the public are safe and meet the required specifications.

He stressed that effective regulation must go beyond establishing rules and should produce practical results that benefit consumers.

As part of efforts to achieve this objective, the Authority has deployed monitoring teams to key points in the supply chain, including import terminals, refineries, storage facilities and fuel retail outlets across the country.

The inspections are designed to detect possible quality concerns and ensure that petroleum products distributed on the Ghanaian market meet the relevant regulatory requirements.

Mr Tameklo also highlighted the introduction of toll-free telephone lines through which consumers can report suspected problems with the quality of petroleum products.

He explained that the reporting channels provide members of the public with a direct means of communicating their concerns to the Authority, helping it gather information and take appropriate action where necessary.

The NPA chief executive reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to protecting consumers, noting that efforts to improve product quality and strengthen compliance would remain a continuous priority.

The initiative forms part of the Authority’s wider mandate to promote quality assurance, enforce industry standards and protect the interests of petroleum consumers throughout Ghana.
