No boss helped me rise through NDC ranks – Mustapha Gbande
Mustapha Gbande has rejected suggestions that his rise through the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and his service at the Presidency were due to the influence of his superiors, insisting that he earned his position through hard work.
The NDC Deputy General Secretary made the remarks on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, when he arrived at the party’s headquarters to declare his intention to contest in the upcoming internal elections.
Gbande, who also serves as Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, said neither his party leaders nor his bosses at Jubilee House had helped establish his reputation.
“I am proud to say that from the headquarters of the NDC to the Jubilee House, where I served the president, none of my bosses have put me on the map. None,” he stated.
He recalled starting his political journey as a deputy regional secretary of the NDC in the Volta Region before rising to his current position.
Gbande also challenged anyone to produce evidence linking him to corruption, stressing that his background had taught him to work hard rather than engage in wrongdoing.
“There cannot be any trace of me as far as corruption is concerned. I have a humble beginning. I came from a poor background. My background does not teach me how to steal. My background simply teaches me how to work hard and survive on my strength,” he said.
The NDC executive maintained that his career progression reflected his own efforts rather than the intervention of influential individuals.
